Southern California... for now.

Holy crap everybody, I took my children and moved to Los Angeles! That said, I am in Seattle quite often as I am currently working hard on a project for MOHAI that is very exciting and will carry me through the next year. I will also continue to show my work in Seattle, so don't worry loyal patrons!

Folks have been asking whether I have any work available for sale - not at present, as I am settling in and focusing on my new body of work, "Temples of the Temporary." On occasion I post images of the process, please email me if you'd like to be on that list, and/or be informed of upcoming exhibitions.

What's happening

I have not been good at blogging. Sorry! I Twitter however - follow me @racheldory

Have been selling my work as fast as I've been making it, which is a great thing - however then I get requests to "see what I have" and have very little to show.

I am inspired and excited, working on new pieces which will be hanging around Seattle. More updates to come soon.

Thanks for your support!

Artwork at Horseshoe in Ballard

My good friend Jill just moved her women's fashion boutique Horseshoe to a new location in Old Ballard - it's my favorite place to shop (JEANS!) and now she has lots of Big Walls. So of course I hung some art - mostly a mix of older work, there are some photos as well.

Will Ferrell and Cancer for College Benefit

The founder of the charity Cancer for College asked me to paint a funny golf-oriented portrait of Will Ferrell (his old friend and long-time supporter of the charity) to auction at the golf tournament fund raiser and dinner they recently held - so I did of course! I went down to San Diego for the event, and had a fantastic time. I even got to sit next to Will at the dinner, and enjoyed chatting with him and his wife Viveca. They are both very down-to-earth, lovely people and have worked hard on behalf of the CFC charity over the years.

Will thought the painting was hilarious and autographed it for the auction. Not sure how much it ended up bringing, but they were very happy with my work and overall the event raised several hundred thousand dollars to help cancer survivors attend college.

It's a wonderful charity, and founders Craig Pollard and his wife Stacy are such inspiring people. I'm looking forward to seeing them here in Seattle at their January 24 event! If you are interested in attending the wine tasting fundraiser, click the link below - it's a great cause, and a lot of fun.

Artist Trust Grant Award Recipient!

Of over a thousand applicants, I was one of those chosen to receive a grant by the Artist Trust for the 2008 calendar year!

The grant is specifically for my "Washington: 48ยบ North" project currently underway, which involves traveling across Washington State along the 48th latitude and producing a series of paintings based specifically on those locations. The grant money partly went towards the cost of purchasing a GPS locator so I can monitor my locations, and will also help with travel expenses.

I am very excited about the project, and proud to have the support of Artist Trust! This approash is exciting to me, as it fits into my "Here on Earth" concept and is a satisfying process. I am thrilled and inspired, to say the least.

So far I have traveled to La Push - next up: San Juans, Everett, Grand Coulee, and the Spokane Indian Reservation - and the spaces between. I am hoping to show the finished group of work in early Spring '09.
